Man dies in single-vehicle crash near I-95 and Taylor Road in Port Orange

A man died Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash near the southbound Interstate 95 exit to Taylor Road in Port Orange, according to police.

Port Orange police said officers were dispatched at about 6:13 a.m. on Aug. 31 to the area of the interstate interchange. The man driving the vehicle was its only occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene, the department told WFTV. Police reported no other injuries.

The driver’s name had not been released as of the latest agency information cited by the station. Police said notification of his next of kin was still pending. CFL Report is withholding the driver’s name until an official release confirms that family notification has occurred and is not relying on names offered in social-media comments.

Road closure followed the crash

CFL Report documented the developing response in three Facebook updates. The first showed the crash scene and warned that westbound travel near Dunlawton Avenue and Taylor Road could remain closed while investigators worked. A second update reported a fatality and continued congestion. A later on-scene video said the roadway had reopened around midday.

The location wording changed as the story developed. Early posts described the broader I-95 and Dunlawton Avenue or Taylor Road corridor, while the police account relayed by WFTV placed the crash near the southbound interstate exit to Taylor Road. This report uses the more precise police description in the headline and location reference. The available information does not establish that the collision occurred in the interstate’s through lanes.

Those videos establish the sequence of the traffic disruption, but they do not establish why the vehicle crashed. Port Orange police have not confirmed comments and witness impressions about speed, a possible medical emergency or the type of vehicle involved, so CFL Report has not included them as fact.

Investigation remains open

The Port Orange Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating. The agency had not publicly announced a cause, identified a contributing factor or said whether investigators expected any further enforcement action. A single-vehicle classification alone does not answer those questions.
