Sheriff’s Office Says Osteen License-Plate Reader Was Destroyed

OSTEEN, Fla. — A license-plate reader in Osteen was found destroyed on the morning of July 22 after it produced no reads the previous night, according to a Volusia Sheriff’s Office daily activity report.

VSO said District IV units were notified that the reader had recorded no detections since 9:49 p.m. July 21. Deputies checked the equipment at approximately 10:11 a.m. the following day.

Deputies found pieces of the camera on the ground. The report said the equipment appeared to have been struck with a blunt object. CFL Report’s image shows an opened electronics enclosure with exposed wiring beneath a solar panel.

The incident is listed as case 260015752 under destruction, damage or vandalism. The public activity report does not identify the camera manufacturer, its precise location, a suspect, an arrest or a possible motive.
