K-9 Tracks Daytona Beach Drug Suspect After Motel Search, Volusia Sheriff Says

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office K-9 tracked down a man who deputies say ran while detectives were serving a search warrant at a motel room.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, detectives went to the room to execute a search warrant in a narcotics investigation. The agency said Charles Jordan attempted to flee but was located a short distance away by K-9 Kratos and his handler.

Deputies allege Jordan discarded marijuana and a cellphone while trying to avoid arrest. The Sheriff’s Office said investigators then found 6.6 grams of crack cocaine in his pocket.

A search of the motel room turned up additional drugs and items that detectives described as consistent with the manufacture of crack cocaine, according to the agency. The Sheriff’s Office did not identify the motel or state the total quantity of drugs allegedly recovered from the room in its public post.

Charges announced by deputies

The Sheriff’s Office said Jordan faces several charges, including possession of cocaine with intent to sell, manufacturing crack cocaine, owning or renting a structure for drug manufacturing, and tampering with evidence. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail.

The arrest, alleged evidence and listed charges are based on the Sheriff’s Office account. A charging affidavit and court filings may contain additional allegations and procedural details.

Charges are accusations. Jordan is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
