Orange City Officials Warn Councilwoman Over Effort to Identify Anonymous Records Requester

ORANGE CITY, Fla. — An email exchange published by CFL Report shows Orange City officials cautioning a councilwoman after questions were raised about identifying the source of an anonymous public-records request.

The exchange concerned whether location or other digital information could reveal who submitted the request. The city clerk and city attorney warned against efforts that could undermine a requester’s anonymity, according to the correspondence shared by CFL Report.

A resident who asked not to be identified told CFL Report they feared the information could be used for retaliation. That statement reflects the resident’s concern; CFL Report has not established that retaliation occurred.

Florida’s public-records system generally allows people to request government documents without explaining why they want them. This article will be updated if the city or the councilwoman provides additional context.
