Orange City Begins Three-Month Citywide Water-Meter Replacement Program
ORANGE CITY, Fla. — Orange City announced a citywide water-meter replacement program beginning Monday, Aug. 10, with work moving through sections of the city over approximately three months.

National Metering Services Inc. is completing the work. In an Aug. 6 release, city officials said replacing meters every 10 to 15 years is a utility-industry best practice that supports accurate readings and reliable infrastructure.
During each visit, a technician will locate and clear access to the meter, record the existing reading, remove the old unit and install the replacement. The technician will then confirm water flow, check the connections for leaks and restore the work area.

Technicians will knock before starting. If no one is home, they will leave a door hanger explaining that the meter was replaced.
Customers do not need to make an appointment or be present. Residents and businesses are asked to keep meter boxes accessible and clear of vehicles, landscaping, dirt and other obstructions. Work-zone signs will move through the city as the project progresses.
Questions may be directed to National Metering Services at 1-888-448-0009. The city said it would provide project updates as crews move through each area.
Orange City’s adopted fiscal 2025-26 budget allocates $140,000 from the Utilities Renewal and Replacement Fund to meter replacements. The budget says the city’s existing meters were installed in 2014 and that the appropriation was increased to cover replacement meters, MXUs, register heads and cables.
That timing places the 2014 meters within the 10-to-15-year replacement window cited by the city. Officials say periodic replacement supports accurate consumption readings and reliable utility service. During installation, technicians are also directed to verify water flow and check the connections for leaks before restoring the work area.
As of Sept. 7, the city’s Utility Billing Customer Service page continued to display the program notice. It says no appointment is required and customers do not need to be home; meter boxes should remain clear of vehicles, landscaping and other obstructions. Orange City Utility Billing lists 386-775-5444 for customer-service questions and 386-736-5999 for after-hours emergencies.
